Progress is so far so good! But as we progress into another day – for a moment I will place my ‘keys to success’ series on pause as it is important to get ourselves into the correct mindset to conquer this week.
Let’s face it: we all sometimes find ourselves in situations where we feel like our patience is on its last thread or maybe we find ourselves at a point where we are fearful of what the day may hold – due to past experiences from the week before, due to a set deadline or maybe it is because this is a daunting week.
It’s vitally important that you learn to calm yourself down in highly charged situations before you lose it or make mistakes. There are ways to calm down and get through it with your sanity intact. Contrary to what you might think, fear is not an uncontrollable force that takes over us. It is a manageable emotion.
Here are some ways that can help you relax and stay calm:
-
Pause and take deep breaths
-
Step back and ask yourself some simple questions
-
Declare that you want to be productive and calm, and focus on that
-
Label your emotional state in just a word or two
-
Let go of any unhelpful thoughts you may have
-
Write down the experience in a journal
-
Tell someone about it
-
Burn off some of that mess of a mind with exercise
-
Go outside and reconnect with nature
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. – Philippians 4:13
