P365 2018: Day #185: Character Defines

When we strip away everything, down to the bare minimum of who and what we are. We are left with character. Character can be defined as:

– the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual
– strength and originality in a person’s nature
– person’s good reputation

The question you need to answer is which one above definitions defines you. Then you need to redefine each element of what signifies the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual. What signifies strength and originality in a persons nature or a persons good reputation.

P365 2018: Day #184: Every Step

If every day you do 1 little thing which scared you, imagine your growth over a period of 6 months or even a year. It would be exponential! It’s a little step at a time.

It all starts with the something small, but even if that one small thing seems impossible at the time, you are still conquering your fear.

Setting yourself a daily quota to do something will enable you to more likely stay dedicated. Examples:

  • “Do 20 math exercises a day”
  • “Read a textbook chapter a day”
  • “Write 500 words a day”

Or if it was something that scared you:

  • Talking to one new person each day
  • Asking for a discount whenever you make a purchase
  • Telling someone new each day that they look beautiful

Make this a priority for each day for 365 days. Or even for the next 6 months.  Then you need to just evaluate what this can do for you. Remember to make sure you pick something realistic.

I say keep it smaller to enable consistency.

P365 2018: Day #183: Of Your Life

Yesterday we hit the midway point of the year. Which makes today the first day of the rest of your life. Well each day is that day, but going into each day with this attitude can kick-start you into an active mindset.

I SAY START TODAY!

So today you have 5 months, 4 weeks and 1 days remaining.

  • 26 weeks
  • 182 days
  • 4,368 hours
  • 26,2080 minutes
  • 15,724,800 seconds

Yesterday we touched on some of the smaller details, which alone seem like nothing, but together through consistency, they stand out and actually make quite the impact to your life.

I gave some examples yesterday of what you can apply daily, however, I have some more small changes you can make that can completely transform your life…

Daily:

  • Read 10 pages of a good book (15 minutes)
  • Listen to 30 minutes of an instructional CD
  • Eat 125 calories less each day then you normally eat
  • Drink two bottles of water a day
  • Walk 2,000 steps a day, roughly 1.6 kms
  • Make date night with your significant other a priority

Now for no reason at all, let’s ask ourselves where would we be in 27 months… (6 months)

  • Read 47 books (7 books)
  • Listened to 465 hours of audio on success and improvement (69 hours)
  • Saved 117,500 calories = lost 15.2 kgs. (17,407 calories, 2.25 kgs)
  • Drank 3,720 gallons of water (551 gallons)
  • Walked 1448 kms = an additional 13.6 kgs lost (170 kms, 2 kgs)
  • Had 124 dates with your partners = a better relationship (at least 18 dates)

Now, these may seem like a lot or not a lot at all, but these are only examples. Imagine if you add your finances, your actual time spent in gym and other areas of your life. These things start to add up quickly over time, and in the short term things might not seem like they are progressing, but the routine of consistency will IMPACT you more so in the long term.

I want to leave you with this thought the next time you think success isn’t within reach: consider implementing these small steps, they will leave you living the life of your dreams.

“He who refuses to embrace a unique opportunity loses the prize as surely as if he had failed.” William James.

P365 2018: Day #182: No Cheat!

There is no cheat in life. No easy way, no shortcut or nothing to skip a few years. The only thing there is is you and the other billions of people.

What about an advantage?

Well, you are the advantage.

No one else is you. Therefore you will be unique and can be unique in all that you do.

‘But, But, But I don’t have what it takes…’

What does it take? Why does it take something to be something? You are something. You are you. What more could there be?

You need to define what you will be and how you will be it.

Do what you got to do.

P365 2018: Day #181: Tomorrow…

If you’re stuck on yesterday… today or tomorrow is always going to be distant. Because what is done is done. You may be able to fix it, but there is no changing it. If you want the change, then you need to take action. And the best way to take action and control of yesterday is by making the right decisions today and tomorrow.

Three simple rules in life:

  1. If you do not go after what you want, you’ll never have it.
  2. If you do not ask, the answer will always be no.
  3. If you do not step forward, you will always be in the same place.

“BE MISERABLE. OR MOTIVATE YOURSELF. WHATEVER HAS TO BE DONE, IT’S ALWAYS YOUR CHOICE.” – WAYNE DYER

Goals are what we reach for. Standards are where we stand.
How much easier would it be to touch the sky if you were standing on skyscraper then the sidewalk?
I recommend you raise your standards to the level of the individuals you look up to (ironic). As an example you can ask yourself some questions, in reflection to the people who have inspired you:

  1. How did Steve Jobs spend his time?
  2. What type of environment did Steve surround himself around every day?
  3. What type of attitude did he have?
  4. How did Steve spend his money?

This helps your mind, relate, understand and formulate an answer for you.

Once you answer those questions. You’ll have a picture of your future self. Who YOU will be. But remember YOU ARE NOT the person who inspired you. You should be someone who is of individuality and who inspires on their own.

P365 2018: Day #180: Positive Everyday

So what do you need to do to train your self to be positive every day? Well here are 5 steps to becoming more positive today.

Step One: Believe a Positive Attitude is a Choice

The hardest of them all is to actually make the choice to have a positive attitude. As life is going to throw some things your way, and for sure they ain’t all going to be the best.  But with the right attitude, you can make the best of everything.

Step Two: Rid Your Life of Negativity

If you want to live a positive, joyful life, you cannot be surrounded by negative people who don’t encourage your happiness. Sacrifices will need to be made.  It can hurt to distance yourself from people—even when you know they aren’t good for you or your current lifestyle. Also, check out the negative behaviors

Step Three: Look For the Positive in Life

In every person, in every situation, there is something good. Most of the time it’s not obvious. We have to look. And sometimes we have to look hard. Everything—good and bad—is a learning experience so, at the very least, you can learn from bad experiences. You will usually find something good, something genuinely positive, about every person or situation.

Step Four: Reinforce Positivity in Yourself

Be honest with yourself, but do your best to look for the good. And, whatever you do, don’t focus on the negative. It’s okay to not like everything about yourself, but don’t focus on what you don’t like. We all have positive attributes, and it’s up to you to remind yourself of them every day.

Step Five: Share Positivity with Others

You have to share your wealth of positivity with the world. People appreciate positivity, and the more you share it with others, the more you are practicing it your own life.

“A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.” ~Winston Churchill

P365 2018: Day #178: The Distance

There is a distance between here and where you are going. I will be the first one to admit that when it comes to reflecting on life, I can agree that is not “easy”, the “struggle is real” and that “things won’t always go as planned”. Failure is sitting behind every door ready to pounce, however, what is more, is our fear is emphasizing the impact even before we have even potentially failed in the first place. Could it be possible that society is set up to fail? Is it at all possible that society is giving as a false hope?

Let’s not forget that the world is constantly flashing us a glimpse of instant gratification through the social media lenses that people produce. (images of their perfect and good life moments). Similarly, the world also suggests that things come easy and are just that good, once again this is suggested and projected through the use of viral media of the rich and famous or the handy work of a critiqued photo-shopper. This further leads on to the whole idea of a viral success. How many times have you seen the one hit wonders come up out of nowhere simply because they did one thing and society reacted in a way which has unexpectedly made these individuals superstars and celebrities, all because they posted a vine or YouTube video.

I guess what I am trying to say is, let us not become part of the constant cycle of chasing an expectation and idea that the answers we are looking for, that the results we are wanting and that the success we have fought for is just going to be sitting around the corner and simply land in our laps. For some, it may, but for the majority it won’t. So you need to get up and do something about it.

I have three statements for you – I suggest you take them, read them and apply them. If you want a tangible result you better GRIT up and pull yourself together, as no one else is going to do it for you.

The distance between you and your goal is the one you make.

The longer you wait, the further the distance will be.

The distance between you and your goal is the walk you didn’t make.

The journey to the top, the journey to your goal and the success you are longing for, was never intended to be a race. It is a walk. If you’re not confident enough to walk through it all, how can you be worthy to have it all.

The distance between you and your goal is the limit you set.

The only thing stopping you is your lack of starting. So just start.

P365 2018: Day #177: Value. Self-Value.

Self-value, the very core of an individual. Over the years, society has lowered the expectation of self-value, and in some cases, you can see clearly it has disappeared, almost like it has been forgotten. It has become lost in today’s society. However, there is still hope. You have the power to control you, and you should stand tall and not be dictated by what people think of you. You should own up to being yourself, live being you and embrace the person you are. Learn to love your strengths and weaknesses and understand how you can leverage these every day.

You are worth so much more than you could ever imagine! You just need to realize it! You need to claim it, own it and take it wherever you go.

“Until you value yourself, you won’t value your time. Until you value your time, you will not do anything with it. ”– M. Scott Peck

Maybe you have problems identifying who you are? Maybe you need to ask yourself some questions?

  • Who are you?
  • What motivates you?
  • What saddens you?
  • Why are you driven by one thing but not another thing?
  • Why do you feel upset in one situation and not in another situation?
  • What are your values and beliefs?
  • Where did they come from?

Do these questions challenge you? Prompt you?

Take a pen, write these down. Answer them. Elaborate on them. Understand who you are and what makes you tick.

P365 2018: Day #176: Checkpoint

We are so close of hitting the halfway point for the year and I figured that now is better than ever to take a quick checkpoint before really analyzing how the first 6 months of the year has progressed.

Looking back over the past months, 2018 is ticking on quickly and soon enough we will be knocking on 2019. The scary fact is, people are planning next year already and we haven’t even finished this year, let alone hit half way. So it is important you make your next 6 months better than the ones before.

If you think you’ve already made it, that’s when you can fall short and go backwards. I’m constantly pushing forward and chasing the element of perfection. – Jason Derulo

But in all honesty, this quick checkpoint should tell you one of two things. Either you need to up your game for the next 6 months, or you need to keep on keeping on. Regardless, there is no backing down. So either way, you need to be moving forward.

On paper, my year is progressing well. I am learning lots, growing lots, achieving lots and majority of this is in my work life. This is great as I have had a goal to set a deep foundation in my career, setting me up for the long years ahead. Likewise, I have also achieved some things this year in my personal life which I have been trying to do for a while. So in all honesty, I should be proud!

But if I have done all this in the first 6 months, what do I have to aim for in the next? I know exactly what. For the next 6 months, I want to up the anti. Recently, I have had to focus on work, which I have loved and will continue to do so. However, I also want to grow things outside of work too. I want to ensure that my work skills don’t only reflect there, but reflect on my entire life. And vice versa.

So what am I going to do?

I’m going to push harder. I will look at the next 6 months just like another day. And each day I strive to do and be better than the day before. If I don’t end up coming out better, than the experience itself is worth it. I still have some goals and things I want to knock out and I still have 6 months to do it. But my plan is to overcome these goals and go greater.

The question I have for you is; what are you going to do for the next 6 months. Checkpoint today and take a high-level evaluation of what you have done for the past 6 months. Are you happy?

We can all improve, but if you are not happy, what are you going to do about it. That is the ultimate question. What are you going to do about your next 6 months?

Will you step it up, keep it going or maybe you won’t do anything?

P365 2018: Day #175: Each Morning

Each morning as the sun rises, or even before, we lie waiting for the sound of what we call the ‘wretched alarm’.

If you’re an iPhone lover, then the mention of the classic alarm ringtone will give you anxiety every time.

Anyway, each morning you’re alarm goes off and you are given a split moment to make a decision. As you open your eyes you know what needs to be done, but within the first 5 seconds of waking you fight every urge to decide shall you snooze or shall you get up.

For me, this is 4:45AM sharp. My back up alarm is 4:50AM, just in case.

As you make this decision and depending on the day, you are reminded of the places you have to be, the job you have and the responsibilities you have.

WHAT WILL YOU DECIDE?
